Review of Lithium Batteries

Today we will be reviewing our Lithium Batteries (LiFePO4) & how they compare to our more traditional AGM batteries.

Review of Lithium Batteries

Our range of lithium batteries comes in 54, 84, 100, 110 & 216Ah capacities, providing a nice selection for your to choose from. Each size has the benefit of being able to provide 2x the useable capacity compared with lead-acid batteries like AGM & GEL. This is thanks to the fact that they can be taken to 100% depth of discharge (DoD) without suffering any damage (lead-acid batteries shouldn't be taken below 50% DoD). In fact, unlike wet lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries operate better when operating in a discharged state. Forget about those days of continually checking your voltmeter to see if you've reached the critical 12.1V (indicating a 50% discharge level)!

Our lithium batteries not only provide twice the capacity compared with an equivalent Ah-rated wet lead-acid battery, but they are up to 50% lighter. This can help keep the weight down in your campervan, motorhome, canal boat, yacht, or off-grid application.

Another significant benefit is that they can accept a much higher charge rate than lead-acid, so you can use a higher output charger and recharge much more quickly. When considering alternator charging, this means you'd need to drive for a much shorter distance to get a full charge than you would do for lead-acid batteries.

Lithium batteries also require much less maintenance than lead-acid batteries because there is no risk of damage if left in a partially discharged state, even for extended periods, so no more panicking because your batteries have been off-charge for a month whilst in storage.

And, whilst still more costly to purchase than lead-acid alternatives, the total cost of ownership per usable kWh is about 2.8 times cheaper for lithium than for lead-acid, which makes a compelling case for switching.

In the table below we compare some keys stats for our 100Ah lithium & AGM batteries

  Lithium AGM
Depth of Discharge (DOD) up to 100% 50% (to prevent damage)
Cycles at 100% DOD >2000  400-600
Usable energy 100Ah  50Ah
Max Charging current 50A 20A
Weight 13.1Kg 26Kg
Estimated Lifespan 10 Years 4-6 Years

As you can see, our lithium batteries are a lot more effective in all areas when compared to our AGM batteries, making them the perfect upgrade to your power system. To find out more about our range, please visit here »
