This advanced DuoRacer DM Series dual battery solar controller from Photonic Universe uses high efficiency MPPT technology to charge two independent batteries or battery banks. The main (leisure) battery receives the majority of the available charge, while a second battery is given a trickle charge of up to 1A. This makes it the perfect solar controller for a campervan, motorhome, boat or any other system with two batteries (e.g. engine start and leisure battery), ensuring that your starter battery is kept in a good state of charge when the vehicle is not in use.
MPPT technology enables this controller to harvest the maximum amount of energy from the solar system and significantly outperforms standard PWM technology found in more basic controllers. This controller has a 30A maximum output and can covert up to 390W of solar power for a 12V battery system or 780W for a 24V battery system. The high input voltage capability of 100V allows for series connection of panels to increase efficiency where the PV input voltage is much higher than the battery system voltage. The advanced 3-stage charging algorithm, user-selectable battery chemistry programs and on-board temperature sensor mean that the charging voltages are always optimised for your particular leisure battery type, helping to maximise its service life.
This controller is compatible with all leisure battery types (flooded, sealed, Gel, AGM & lithium) plus lead-acid starter batteries, and can be used with either 12V or 24V battery systems (leisure and starter systems must be the same voltage) The intelligent charging rules for the starter battery ensure that the leisure battery is always prioritised and charge is only diverted to the starter battery once the leisure battery is sufficiently charged and/or the solar voltage is sufficiently high.
The fully-featured backlit LCD screen shows a vast array of real-time charging parameters such as voltage, current (separately for the solar panel and each battery), battery state of charge, and accumulated charging energy. The easy to use buttons allow the user to manually select the battery type & system voltage, change the temperature units, and reset the in-built counters (charging energy, min/max voltages). This controller also features a comprehensive set of electronic protection functions to prevent reverse current at night (from the battery back to the solar panel), over-charging, short circuit, reverse polarity and much more (see specification tab for full list).
A low-power mode will automatically be enabled where charging conditions cannot be reached (e.g. lack of solar power) to reduce power consumption to a minimum and prolong battery life.
If your controller is being mounted in an inaccessible location then there is an optional remote meter that can be connected that displays system performance information and allows the user to manually adjust parameters and load settings from an easy to install LCD screen.
