The ratchet mechanism ensures that the jaws of the tool are not released until a full crimp has been applied to the terminal.

This crimping tool did a great job of fixing Anderson connectors to 10 AWG cable. But you do need very strong hands to use it. The staff at 12 Volt Planet are very helpful and helped me purchase the correct items.
