Recessed power socket for 12v or 24v systems featuring twin hi-power USB ports for fast-charging of ipads, smart-phones, tablets and other mobile devices whilst on the move. This socket provides 10W (2.1A @ 5V) which is the same power output as you'd get from your mains wall charger at home, ensuring that your devices re-charge in the minimum time. A blue LED illuminates the USB ports with a soft glow to indicate that the socket is powered.

It features a tethered rubber cover and a rectangular faceplate which can be left off if you don't have the space to fit it or simply prefer it without. Nickel-plated brass terminals prevent corrosion and the cover protects the sockets from dirt and moisture when not in use. Suitable for cars, campervans, motorhomes, caravans, boats, motorbikes or any vehicle running 12v / 24v.

The socket is mounted in a 29mm panel hole using a nut that screws over the threaded body. The faceplate is fixed through two holes using the screws provided and power connection is via two polarity-marked blade terminals.

Great to add two USB charging points

Easy way to add two USB charging points. The blue LED light is covered by the supplied rubber cap when not charging so you don't get distracted at night by the bright light!

Best used without mounting plate so you just need to cut a single round hole.

I decided to fit this socket as I was having problems with plugging my phone chargers into a 12v Clipsal socket via a cigar lighter adapter cable as the connection was reliable. Easy to fit and I also didn't bother with the rectangular faceplate. Mine is wired directly to the leisure battery so I also fitted a fuse and will probably fit a switch at some point.

Excellent service from 12 Volt Planet made the overall experience very good indeed.

USB Charging on a boat.

Bought this item for charging I pads and I phones whilst cruising on the local rivers.
A doddle to fit and a switch added to isolate it when not in use. Great bit of kit.

A useful addition, pity about the LED

I fitted this socket as a replacement for a broken cigarette lighter in my Audi. It fits nicely and seems to work fine for charging phones, dash cams etc. and the power is nice and clean so I don't get that whine that you can get with cheap lighter adaptors powering audio gadgets.

The only drawback for me is a single bright blue led that is on all the time in my car. I could do without that, so I'll probably be putting a switch in.

Charging via USB whilst away from home
Sunday, 23 November 2014  |  Barry

Mounted this on an 18mm chipboard panel in campervan next to existing 12v power outlet as we have lots of gadgets that need re-charging via a USB socket. Also fitted a separate on/off switch in case the 'blue glow' became a nuisance at night or whilst we are away from the van. The faceplace looks a bit 'cheap' (shiny, waxy looking plastic) so didn't use it in my installation, relying instead on just the ring nut on the back and in my opinion, looks neater this way. Charging will take longer if you use both sockets at once. An additional cost for you might be a 29mm hole cutter if you don't have one already and a separate on/off switch if you choose to install one. You'll also need spade connectors etc unless you intend to use a soldering iron.
Overall, looks neat and tidy and better than the 'cigar lighter socket adaptors' that we used to use (and still can if need be).
